Math/STEM Adventures is a PTSA sponsored program that supports the curriculum taught at Rosa Parks. During the school day, students work in small groups with parent volunteers using a variety of Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM) games and activities that enrich the skills taught in the classroom. The goal is to encourage our students understanding of STEM beyond arithmetic while experiencing that STEM Is Fun!
How Math/STEM Adventures works
- Parent Volunteers work together to lead groups of students (from a few students, to up to half the class).
- They play a variety of math, coding, and strategy games.
- Each session is usually held twice a month and lasts for an hour. Depending on the number of volunteers for your class, each volunteer usually only needs to come in once a month.
- The Parent volunteers work with the teachers to schedule the sessions and select a game to play customized to best fit each teacher’s needs.
- The website www.mathadventures.info contains information on the different available activities.
- Volunteers and students meet in a common area near the classroom.
How to volunteer
You don’t need to be gifted in math or understand coding
… just have the desire to play and learn with our children.
- Games and materials will be provided.
- A Parent Coordinator will set up the program for the year and be the liaison with the teacher and other volunteers.
- As a requirement of all volunteers in LWSD, please be sure to register as a volunteer on the school website at
How to begin
We will have an Orientation Meeting in September to review the program and procedures. This should be a quick meeting. MA sessions should begin in October.
If you have any questions, please contact the program Co-chairs.
